"Last of a Dying Breed" My Definition

Q:"Last of what breed?"
A: The breed of the "classic and CLASSY woman"

My name on Facebook has "lastofAdyingbreed" in the middle; I've had it there since my Freshmen year in college. Initially, I got the tag line from a Jeezy song; however as I am growing as a woman everyday, I'm learning that I am truly one of the last.

I was having a conversation with a good male friend of mine on the tag line and I decided I needed to tell the world once and for all!

Now, I'm not trying to toot my horn, but I have plenty of male friends who confide in me and I'm always AMAZED at the stories they tell me about these triflin women! I will not sit here and say that I'm perfect in any respect, but some things are hard to comprehend.

I think that a lot of women would call themselves a good woman but here is my definition of a LOADB:
  1. God Fearing: A woman who not only claims she's a Christian, but tries hard everyday to better herself and grow as a woman and as a Christian and makes an effort to be the best person God will have her to be.
  2. Intelligent: Intelligence is not just related to academics ( although highly important) but a woman who pays attention to issues and concerns impacting the community and the world. Someone who is cultured and willing to learn and try to live and think outside of "the box."
  3. Down to earth: Trust me. I am 9.999/10 categorized as "stuck up" because of my appearance. Yet, I'm sooo chill and I love to be around people! Being down to earth is a characteristic because what's the point of having brains and beauty, but people don't want to be around you?
  4. Set a standard for morals and values: My good friend brought this point, "I think people's morals and values differentiate, sometimes depending on the situation." This point is relative to the person, but if they are God Fearing then M&V's should align.
  5. Independent: As many songs that are flying around about being "Miss Independent" I don't think I need to elaborate any further...
  6. Looks: Ladies, the way you dress can say A LOT about you. I've found that a true LOADB has a certain swag and will carry herself with respect and dignity. Wearing a dress or skirt right below your tush is NOT it.
  7. DON'T PLAY GAMES!: Now, my friends would say that I can be pretty tough on guys. I would disagree, I know what I want and what I won't put up with. To truly be a LOADB you must know yourself and have a clear understanding of what you would and would not put up with. I assure you a man will not want a woman who cannot or will not stand up for herself or is content.
  8. KNOW YOURSELF: You can't be anyone's LOADB if you're not comfortable in the skin you're in. Truly take the time to understand who you are. Explore you relationship with God, your family, you're friends. Evaluate you're priorities and goals. Ladies, we need to learn how to be by ourselves! Heck! Take YOURSELF on a date! Take a painting class or write in a journal!

Although these characteristics may sound common, I can honestly say I have a HANDFUL of women who fit this mold. Note: handful. Granted plenty of these women are my friends, but I don't call many my friends. That's why its dying out! Not sure where they are all going.. but it's disappearing!

Even Andre 3000 agree with me when he says "Candy-coated unicorns are quite hard to find/ The classic lady, a rare breed indeed/ Is that make and model discontinued?" in his song Behold A Lady.

Your feelings on this?

I agree with most of the characteristics on this list. I thought of a couple more that in my opinion are displayed in a LOADB. First, a woman who understands how to be in a relationship. It seems that many black women don't really understand what it means to be submissive in a relationship. That does not mean you have to be a slave or anything, but God has established guidelines for this. One might argue that those guidelines were set for marriage, but relationships are just the pre-game for marriage.. So they should still be followed to a certain extent. However, I think this can be attributed to the abundance of single parent homes within the black community. Young men and women alike don't know how to operate in a functional relationship because there is no example being set at home. Secondly, the LOADB doesn't settle for these whack ass- I won't say the "N" word, I'll just say... ninjas... LOADB's don't go for the materialistic, hyped up, really aint talkin about nothin, full of %^&*, all about games, treat you like crap, immature dude. I've noticed that a lot of women are into that these days. LOADB's ARE NOT. In my opinion anyway...

Ms.Rachel, Your thoughts are very real, but many make take your confidence and see it as cocky or thinking your the shit. I have known for about 3 and half years. I come to understand the way you think. I see nothing wrong with holding yourself high and staying true to what you believe in. There a more than a few women to meet this standard. They are either miles away or taken. Some even on the man hating tip. Which seems to be going around like a virus. Keep doing you and holding your head high. If someone has problem tell em catch up n sniff that swagg you left behind for them.. so they might have a chance. Glad i know a LOADB.

simply beautiful.

well said love. and i concur its hard being a LOADB but what can we say... God blessed us in so many ways and with many gifts and it is our responsibility to use our gifts in stead of holding them and taking them for granted.

love ya.
